It’s time to talk all things SEO…Driving more website traffic
How do I drive more website traffic? SEO that mysterious buzz word! what is it? and how can I improve my SEO?
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard the following sayings throughout my career; ‘how’s your SEO?’ ‘what SEO are you doing?’ ‘do you have backlinks setup?’ ‘what keywords are you using?’ ‘how’s your skyscraper content?’ And, what does this all mean I hear you ask? A great question!
SEO is basically all the activities you undertake to drive traffic to your website. Over the last year we have been working closely with start-up and small businesses helping them develop their digital presence and I wanted to share with you my top 5 tips on improving your SEO and how it all works. But before we get into that I can’t stress it enough SEO isn’t a set and forget; I did it once and now I can move on. Oh no, on the contrary SEO is a constant and moving feast, with algorithms changing constantly and new advancement in technologies.
Here’s a few of my top 5 tips on improving your SEO to drive more traffic to your website:
1. Monitoring Backlinks
In basic terms backlinks are simply having other websites link to you. So your website URL would be listed and linked on partners, suppliers or media outlets websites for example. Often this is achieved through getting PR or blogs written about you and sometimes it’s just who you know, making the right connections. Be mindful not to get Tom, Dick or even Harry to put up your website link, if they have a poor ranking site or a “spam” site it will lower your Google ranking.
2. Social Media
Are you on social media? Not all social media platforms are the right platform for your business but having a presence can really help your Google ranking. As you post on your social media whether it be Facebook or Instagram your content is being indexed. Use rich content relative to your industry and don’t forget your hashtags and linking in with other companies and businesses by using the @symbol. Did you know 30% of our business comes from our clients searching hashtags? Our most popular hashtag that we are being found by right now is #graphicdesignerssydney and #websitedesignsydney. It can be a very powerful content strategy in driving new business.
3. Content Marketing
We have all heard it before ‘content is king.’ And while it’s true it’s ‘good content’ that is king. It’s time to review your content on your website, is it relative to your market? have your run Google keyword searches on the most popular keywords? Try and find keywords without high competition but high search volume. This can be run through doing Google keyword searches in your Google AdWords platform.
4. Create Skyscraper Content
If you haven’t heard of Skyscraper content then you are missing out on a lot of magical SEO. The term was developed by Brian Dean, who used it to boost his traffic by 1105 in 14 days! Skyscraper content involves finding high performing content in your market and creating something better and then promoting it.
5. Voice Searches
‘Hey Siri, what is the best small business design agency?’ Siri – ‘The best small business design agency is Be More Creative!’ Shameless plug I know 🙂 Did you know according to Alpine.ai there are over 1 billion voice searches per month. So, how is your content on your website setup to read voice messages?
On a final note if you have a budget for it please don’t disregard Facebook and Instagram paid advertising and Google AdWords it can really help drive traffic to your site and drive conversions. My personal favourite is running backend Facebook campaigns with the call to action linking to Facebook messenger.
Hope this helps.
